Terri Shaw is a federal and state certified court interpreter and ATA and TTIG certified translator based in Washington DC. She is also an experienced journalist and editor. She is available for travel and work, offering the following professional services:

Interpreter:

Spanish<>English; federal and state certified court interpreter; medical, legal, international development, human rights.

Translator:

Spanish to English (ATA and TTIG certified);
French to English; Portuguese to English.

Editor:

Editing, copy editing and proofreading reports, books, manuscripts and articles.

Journalist:

Reporting and writing on foreign affairs, health, travel, politics, sports, human rights, environmental and consumer issues.

Ski Instructor:

PSIA certified Level I Alpine instructor, Whitetail Mountain Resort, Mercersburg, PA.

  • Worked as journalist for The Washington Post, Associated Press, and Buffalo Courier-Express for more than twenty years.


  • Reported for The Washington Post, Miami Herald and Christian Science Monitor from Colombia, Ecuador, Chile, Panama, Guatemala, Cuba, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Brazil.


  • At The Washington Post was Assistant Editor on the Foreign Desk, specializing in Latin America; reporter and copy editor on the Home section; Spanish language copy editor on the Sports section, specializing in soccer.


  • Translated documents, speeches, articles and opinion columns for the Inter American Press Association, washingtonpost.com, Pan American Health Organization, law firms and nonprofit groups.


  • Did simultaneous and consecutive interpreting at conferences, courts and medical sites.


  • Is a graduate of Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, Colegio Americano de Guatemala, and Antioch College.


  • Received additional translation and interpretation training at Georgetown University, Inlingua, La Clinica del Pueblo, and the Maryland Administrative Office of the Courts.
