The
existing house sat on high ground three stories out of grade at the edge
of Georgetown, yet did not take advantage of the views. The clients desired
a dramatic space for adults to enjoy, but one that would seem as if it
could have been part of the original house.
The design
strategy expresses the structure as a frame around glass oriented to the
dramatic views of the city and river palisades, playing with the gable
roof lines, keeping the materials and details simple and clean. The aerie
is an office with deck, reached by a circular stair as a part of the modified
master bedroom suite. |
