There are several ways to ensure
additional safety when you or others are working on your roof.
|
- Remember to have someone within earshot as a precautionary measure
in case anything happens.
- In extreme weather conditions, such as freezing or
extremely warm weather, it is not advisable to work on your roof. (When cold, asphalt shingles
are brittle, when too warm, asphalt shingles can streach and tear.
- Perhaps this goes
without saying, but itis never advisable to ascend to work on a roof when it is wet and slippery.
- Wear shoes with good soles, and clothes with which you can maneuver easily.
- When using a ladder, if you cannot reach without moving yourself beyond the frame of the
ladder,
move the ladder, don't risk your own safety.
- One of the most dangerous parts of a
roofing job
is the application of the first few rows of tiling. Be sure to have a safety rail on the
scaffolding.
- Stay off Tile Roofs, because tiles can shift easily. By simply walking on them you can
cause extensive damage.
- Hot-tar roofs should only be worked on by professionals. Tar is
molten at 400 degrees.
