Steve and I started a small boarding and breeding kennel in 1967. Since Steve is a hunter and loves to go hunting with his dogs, we acquired a Pointer, much like he hunted with his grandfather, and I fell in love! As time went on and we joined some clubs, we were encouraged to show our dog. Well, that was the beginning and end of our relaxed life (is it ever?).
Just so everyone doesn't get bored, I'll quickly say that I went on to become a professional handler of show dogs, Steve and I both judge Field Trials and I am now an AKC judge of purebred dogs.
Scanpoint Pointers are known world-wide. We have had the privilege of producing the 1st DUAL CHAMPION Pointer in the history of the breed in the United States. We have also produced the ONLY OBEDIENCE TRIAL CHAMPION Pointer in the United States. Our dogs have won Championships the world over. We have, collectively, produced over 130 Bench, Field and Obedience Champions. Our dogs are used for Handicapped Assist Dogs, Leading the Blind dogs and for hunting and home companions.
Today, Scanpoint produces limited puppies (I'm too busy judging, working and playing golf :), and breed only occasionally. Most of our stock was transferred to a great young lady, Monica Broomfield who has continued the Scanpoint line of breeding:-).
