On the Contrary

translated by Ewald Osers

The philosophy of autumn

The late sun's rays
with gentle fingers touch the yellow leaves
outside. Reflected in the window are
a book and a silhouette and a
silhouette, a halo of fair hair;
we are this year
permeated with history
as a cobweb with light.

I ask myself if the prevailing
shortage of geniuses
may not be caused by the disappearance
of tertiary stages of syphilis.

Some kind of heavenly spider
rises above you, above me
and above the aspirin.

A philosophy of encounters

A train which is the mirror image of another train. A handshake
from window to window. A cordial talk between very close
people in windows moving parallel from each other.

--Next time--

--Yes, next time--

--Next time we meet--

--Yes, next time we'll meet next time.

Whereby next time means last time and last time is last time
only because it could be next time.

Every process in nature can, under the same law, unroll also in
reverse: the principle of parity.

Of course the principle of parity does not apply to weak
interactions.
